BEST Program Facilitates First Organic Frozen Baby Food Launch in Canada

Burnaby, B.C. - BOBOBABY™ products launched nation-wide this month, as BCIT's Entrepreneurial Skills Training (BEST) program assisted another lower mainland entrepreneur in making her dream venture a reality. Kalpna Solanki has created the first and only Age-Appropriate frozen meals for babies available anywhere in the world.

"Parents have many questions and concerns about their baby's first foods," said Solanki. "They also want the highest quality and convenience. My own daughter was the inspiration for wanting to assist other parents with their nutritional choices for their children, particularly in the first year.

For the BOBOBABY™ line, Solanki recreated her daughter's menu plan to reflect a baby's critical and changing needs from 6 to 9+ months. BOBOBABY™ products are available in three phases offering 4-recipes for each phase. Each product contains 12 x 25 ml. portions per tray, and 2-trays per package. They are also certified organic and Kosher.

"I saw so many parents feeding their babies solid foods too early or feeding them only a few foods, making their nutrition less than perfect," said Solanki. "I was driven to create BOBOBABY™ and BCIT motivated me to get my business plan under way".

Canada's baby food market was at $796 million in 2003 and has been growing steadily since 1998. Of this, prepared Baby Meals is the fastest growing segment. It is expected to surpass $86 million per year, by 2010, in Canada. BOBOBABY™ products are available in Canada at natural food and select grocery stores.
